Cleaning up my make up storage, I came across some beauty products that I haven't been using for a while and, honestly, I don't feel like using them anymore. It's not that I don't like them, surely I did when I bought them, the fact is that my make up habits have changed a lot in the last couple of years and I feel like they are still changing. Growing up I realized that what I liked and what looked good on me when I was a teenager, don't feel good anymore.
First af all, my base. Some years ago I was in a "full coverage foundation" phase, even if I didn't need it at all! My holy grail foundation at that time was the Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation, I used to wear it every day. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a good product, it has an excellent lasting power, it covers any imperfection and it doesn't look too cakey, but, over the years, I've learned that I don't need these kind of bases. I realized that lightweight foundations look better on me and a natural look is, in general, nicer.
Another product that I need to stay away from is every kind of shimmering bronzer. It looks good on you if you are eighteen, but after your teens all that spark doesn't look good anymore. I own a golden shimmering bronzer, it's the YSL Terre Saharienne bronzing powder, and, thankfully, the shimmer is very subtle, so I can still use it sometimes, but, overall, I prefer a matte finish bronzer.
One thing I've learned over the years is that I'm not able to apply creamy blushers. For some reason I always end up with a mess on my cheeks, no matter if I apply it with my finger or with a brush. Of course, if the blush in question is a bright shocking pink, like my Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint in the shade Quikie, I will end up looking like a clown. This is the reason why no more bright pink creamy blushers for me!
When I was a teenager I was crazy about eyeshadows. I usually didn't wear any make up, especially at school, but when I was going out I liked to wear colorful eyeshadows...well, I mean, not so colorful, but I liked pastel colors a lot and, sometimes, I combined two or three colors together...thank God this phase didn't last for long! But, anyway, the point is that, even if my Dior n. 640 "Moonray" eyeshadows pallet is very dear to me, most of the times colorful eyeshadows are something I stay away from. Unless it's Halloween, of course.
Another beauty product I loved when I was younger is lipgloss. I used to collect any kind and any color of lipglosses, but my favorites were the transparent ones. Then, for some reason, I arrived at a point when I started to hate them. I don't know how this happened, I just couldn't stand their sticky feeling anymore. The only two survivors in my make up bag are the Clinique Superbalm moisturizing glosses in the shade 01 Apricot and 03 Mango. The fact that I own two of them is because the first time I bought the wrong shade, I took Apricot instead of Mango, so I went back to buy the right one. I think I've used them only a couple of times. They are nice, slightly tinted, moisturizing and quite long lasting, but I don't like how they feel on my lips and, overall, I prefer a tinted lip balm anyway.

Facendo pulizia tra i miei trucchi, mi sono imbattuta in alcuni prodotti che non sto usando ormai da un po' di tempo e che, onestamente, non sento il bisogno di usare di nuovo. Non è che non mi piacciano, di sicuro mi piacevano molto quando li ho acquistati, tuttavia le mie abitudini in fatto di cosmesi sono cambiate molto negli ultimi anni e credo che siano ancora in fase di cambiamento. Crescendo, infatti, mi sono resa conto che quello che mi piaceva e mi donava quando ero più giovane non mi si addice più.
Innanzi tutto, la base. Alcuni anni fa ho attraversato la fase dei fondotinta ad alta coprenza, nonostante non ne avessi affatto bisogno. In quel periodo il mio fondotinta preferito era il Duble Wear di Estée Lauder, lo utilizzavo praticamente ogni giorno. Non fraintendetemi, trovo ancora che sia un valido prodotto, ha una tenuta eccellente, copre benissimo ogni imperfezione e non risulta eccessivamente pesante, tuttavia, con gli anni, ho imparato che non ho bisogno di utilizzare basi di questi tipo e che fondotinta più leggeri e look più naturali mi donano maggiormente.
Un altro prodotto dal quale è bene che io stia alla larga è la terra abbronzante con particelle luminose. Questo tipo di prodotto è accettabile fino ai diciott'anni, dopodiché qualunque cosa eccessivamente luccicante è meglio che venga evitata. Al momento possiedo un bronzer con dei riflessi dorati, si tratta del YSL Terre Saharienne bronzing powder, e, fortunatamente, l'effetto luminoso è molto leggero, per cui riesco ancora ad utilizzarlo qualche volta, tuttavia preferisco di gran lunga terre con effetto matte.
Una cosa che ho imparato con gli anni è che sono del tutto incapace di applicare il blush in crema. Per qualche ragione, indipendentemente dal fatto che lo applichi con le dita o con un pennello, l'effetto finale è sempre un pasticcio. Certo, se poi il blush in questione è di un bel rosa shocking, come il mio Urban Decay Afterglow Glide-On Cheek Tint nella tonalità Quikie, non vi è dubbio che finirei inevitabilmente per assomigliare ad un pagliaccio. Quindi, mi sono fatta un appunto mentale: stare lontana dai blush in crema rosa brillanti!
Quando ero adolescente avevo una passione per gli ombretti. Normalmente non indossavo make up, soprattutto quando andavo a scuola, ma quando uscivo con gli amici mi sbizzarrivo con ombretti di tutti i colori...ok, ora non immaginatevi un arcobaleno sulle mie palpebre, non arrivavo a tanto, tuttavia amavo molto i colori pastello e, a volte, ne utilizzavo due o tre insieme...grazie al cielo questa fase non è durata a lungo! In ogni caso, il punto è che, sebbene sia molto affezionata alla mia palette di Dior n. 640 "Moonray", di solito cerco di stare alla larga dagli obietti colorati. A meno che non sia Halloween, chiaro.
Un altro prodotto che adoravo da ragazzina era il lucidalabbra. Ricordo che ne collezionavo di tutti i colori, anche se i miei preferiti erano quelli trasparenti. Finché ad un cero punto, per qualche motivo, ho iniziato a non sopportare più la sensazione appiccicosa che lasciano sulle labbra. Gli unici due sopravvissuti nella mia collezione di trucchi sono due Superbalm Moisturizing Lipgloss di Clinique, il n. 01 Apricot e il n. 04 Mango. In realtà, ne possiedo due solo perché la prima vola ho sbagliato tonalità, volevo la 04 ma per sbaglio ho preso la 01. Quindi, sono tornata per acquistare la tonalità corretta. Credo, tuttavia, di averli utilizzati non più di un paio di volte. Sono dei lucidalabbra molto buoni, leggermente colorati, idratanti e duraturi, ma la loro consistenza è quella tipica di tutti i lucidalabbra, per cui non riesco ad indossarli per più di un paio d'ore senza sentire il bisogno di rimuoverli. Preferisco di gran lunga un buon balsamo labbra colorato.
